Kerrigan Fitzpatrick, co-founder

Kerrigan is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan, with a major in Psychology and minor in Education for Empowerment. She developed MCaSP because for her, her student parent peers and every other student parent that supersedes her deserves to attend UofM without fears of discontinuing their education due to the extra hardships and responsibilities of being a parent. Kerrigan is involved in optiMize as a summer fellow to continue this project. Kerrigan is adventurous, always outdoors, and loves to travel to new places with her two-year-old daughter.

Lyss Vereecke-Shumaker, co-founder

Lyss is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan LSA. She obtained her B.A. in Psychology and minored in CASC (Community Action and Social Change) through the School of Social Work. Lyss’ advocacy work, as co-founder of MCASP at the University of Michigan and student-parent advisor, is rooted in a desire to create educational equity for women, and is informed by her own experience as a student-mama. Lyss is a current optiMize fellow, has never met a stranger, and enjoys running (with her two-year-old in tow). Listen here to our founding story!
